Backdraft Caught on Video

What signs were visible that some type of rapid fire event were about to take place? Notice the color of the smoke in the beginning of the video; brown smoke usually indicates that unfinished wood is burning which means that the fire is attacking the structural members. Notice how the smoke turns to more of a yellowish color once air is introduced; this is a very reliable yet very late sign that a backdraft or smoke explosion may be imminent. This video should also be a strong reminder to wear full turnout gear and SCBA when working anywhere near the structure.

  1. This really drives home the point of wearing your scba and full ppe when near the structure. With the way things are burning these days you can still very well come in contact with the same hazerdous gases as you would interior. Also wear training in reading smoke and not getting complacent and to comfortable and (sexy) at the front door. Being able to train yourself into good habits will prevent from being in the bad situation as this firefighter is. REMEMBER being complacent kills. YES traing on how to get out of bad situation but train habits to prevent them.
